Mental Health Organizations Get a Holistic View of Clients’ Wellbeing with Salesforce

May is Mental Health Month. We could argue that the 2020s are the decade of mental health awareness, given the recent studies and surveys highlighting how the stress and isolation resulting from the pandemic have affected our well-being. To start, let’s examine a few sobering statistics from the National Alliance on Mental Illness:

  • 1 in 5 adults have experienced a mental illness
  • 1 in 20 have experienced a serious mental illness
  • Over 12 million have had serious thoughts of suicide
  • 1 in 5 reported that the pandemic had a significant negative impact on their mental health

If we look at some positive outcomes of the pandemic, many mental health organizations swiftly adopted new technologies to serve their communities. In fact, 26.3 million adults received virtual health services in 2020. https://nami.org/mhstats

In the fourth edition of their Nonprofit Trends Report, Salesforce reported that nearly one-third of all nonprofits surveyed in 2021 said that “ensuring the mental health and wellbeing of their
employees was a major issue for them,” and 35% anticipated it would be increasingly more challenging in the coming year.

For these reasons, we at Provisio are proud to serve as the Salesforce implementation partner for several organizations at the forefront of mental and behavioral health services.

Pacific Clinics is California’s largest community-based nonprofit provider of behavioral and mental health services and supports. Its team of more than 2,000 employees speaks 22 languages and are dedicated to offering hope and unlocking the full potential of individuals and families through culturally-responsive, trauma-informed, research-based services for individuals and families. They provide a full range of mental, and behavioral health services, foster care and social services, housing, continuing adult education and early childhood education programs to Medi-Cal eligible individuals and families.

Silver Hill Hospital is a nationally recognized leader in mental health for adults and adolescents. Their sole focus is on the treatment of psychiatric and addiction disorders, and, as a not-for-profit hospital, all their resources are returned to the patient experience. Their home-like residences nestled within the hospital’s beautiful 44-acre campus are welcoming, warm and healing. Everything in this setting has been carefully designed to foster the process of recovery. Silver Hill has treated patients in their community and across the country for over ninety years.

RAMS, Inc. is a nonprofit mental health organization committed to advocating for and providing comprehensive services to meet their community’s behavioral health, social, vocational, and educational needs. They provide services at more than 130 sites in over 30 languages, transforming lives among the most underserved populations across the San Francisco Bay Area.

Why are human services and mental health organizations pivoting to Salesforce?

Gather and Track Important Client Information

The Salesforce platform allows organizations to gather and track client personal data, family data, program information, and client status. This allows staff to see across the entire organization, connecting departments and breaking silos, giving them a view of their clients.

Improved Automation for Client Enrollment

Organizations experience real benefits to clients as a result of digital transformation efforts, particularly through automating routine or repetitive tasks. The simplified enrollment process through Salesforce allows staff to interact more with clients and spend less time on administrative tasks.

Equally important, simplified enrollment and shared data help to restore client dignity. Clients no longer have to repeat themselves, sharing their (often traumatic) experiences.

Program Tracking Innovation

Organizations can track who is receiving services today and visualize who is not receiving services. A larger view of services and client activity helps organizations see potential gaps in services and allows them to pivot quickly and meet more needs.

They can also improve follow-through via automation and calendar reminders for staff, ensuring better client service.

According to Dr. Craig Maki, Chief Strategy Officer at Provisio, it’s important to understand that we all live within systems: ourselves, our families, and our communities. One of the major advantages of moving to the Salesforce platform is that mental health staff can view their clients holistically; they can see all the services a person is receiving – from counseling to education to job or housing programs.

“We have to use a multi-determinant approach in treating behavioral health. You can’t effectively treat someone without context,” said Maki. The Salesforce platform provides you with that context.

In terms of your own organization, understanding what your employees need to maintain a healthy work-life balance is crucial. The Nonprofit Trend Report advises offering several products and services that positively impact your employees and their families. This is “a small step toward creating the right synergy across the organization.”
